Jordan Edwards - Wilks, better known by his stage name Jords, is a rapper/songwriter from South London. Jords is known for being able to effortlessly combine clever wordplay with raw emotion and an inspirational message.

Session Setup

The Glynn John’s overhead mic technique we used in the Jords session is a great way to get a powerful drum sound quickly. By positioning one mic above the kit and one off to the side but equal distance from the snare, we get a thick sound which covers all the elements of a kit while maintaining excellent mono compatibility.

The Coles 4038, originally designed as an audience mic for the BBC, is a great choice for this as it tames harsh cymbals and provides a weighty snare and tom sound, often negating the need for spot mics on the toms.
