Studio C: Kate Simko
↓
Kate Simko is an American electronic music producer from Chicago and founder of London Electronic Orchestra. Kate came to Noatune Studios to record a string quartet in Studio C.

Session Setup
We can draw some interesting parallels comparing the thought process involved in recording a string quartet with that of a drum kit. In both scenarios, the engineer has to make a large number of choices deciding the stereo width of the ensemble, the amount of room sound, the use or omittance of spot mics on individual instruments and so on.
The AKG 414’s we used in Kate’s session are incredible workhorses. Easy to position, flexible polar patterns and a versatile sound means these get used in a huge variety of contexts ranging from strings to snare drums and even vocals.
